As a Mercy School, we encourage our children to think of others in thought and in action.

We raise funds for a number of charities throughout the year.

During Advent we fundraise for CAFOD.

During Lent we fundraise for Salford Diocese (CARITAS) through St Joseph's Penny.

During Harvest we collect for the  Burnley Women's Refuge.

In school we also have an ongoing collection for the Food Bank in Burnley.

We also organise other events to raise money for various charities, including Pendleside Hospice, Cancer Research, Children in Need and recently we raised over £1000 to help purchase desks for a school in Ethiopia.

Events may include: cake sales, sponsored events, such as a sponsored walk or sponsored spell, non-uniform days etc.

During Advent we ask the children to think of others as a way of preparing for Jesus’ coming. This Advent we will be collecting for a charity called

Mary’s Meals

a charity which helps millions of poor children world-wide.

We will not be raising money but will be collecting items for children in Malawi in order to help them in their daily lives, items which our children take for-granted.

On Monday morning, Celia came into school to talk to the children about how they can help. She brought in a backpack and showed the children what it contained.

In the backpack were coloured pencils, notebooks, a pencil sharpener, a ruler, a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap and a tennis ball. There were some plimsolls, shorts, a dress and a t-shirt. There was also an old towel.  Celia explained that the children the charity helps have nothing! She asked the children if they would be able to bring in any of the items she had shown them and promised that she would get them to the children who needed them.

Look at how much we have collected so far.

Well done children!

Thankyou for all the donations, your support has been overwhelming and shown such generosity.
