Lancashire Small Schools Hi 5 Netball Champions May 2011

The St. Joseph's Park Hill School netball team have been doing really well all year and they were especially pleased when they qualified to represent Burnley for the Hi 5 Netball Small School Championship finals in the Lancashire Youth Games Tournament which took place in Blackpool on Friday May 20th.

Part of the team travelled from their residential course in Borrowdale to be at the tournament. They agreed to miss their final morning's activities in order to take part and Miss Ackroyd travelled down from Borrowdale with three of the team members and Mrs Barker and Mrs Marsden travelled from school early Friday morning with the rest of the team and mums and dads who went along to support them.
From 10am until 3pm the players battled it out amongst 4 other schools and through 7 tough games. The team  played with only 6 players instead of the usual 7 as one player had broken her wrist the week before! However despite being one player down and part of the team  already tired from their weeks residential course they did not lose a match.

The final match was a nailbiting roller coaster and was 2 all up to the final few moments when Alex Minnozzi put the ball into the net to score the winning goal and made it  3-2! Mrs Barker, Miss Ackroyd who coach the team and the mums and dads were exstatic! The news was announced in Assembly that afternoon to great cheers and the exhausted team brought the cup home the same day. The rest of their classmates arrived back from Borrowdale at around the same time and they were all were excited and very proud.
