ST. JOSEPH’S SCHOOL,  PARK HILL

Parental Complaints Procedure

When a parent has a concern regarding a child, the following procedure should be carried out:-

  • The parent requests an appointment with the Class teacher to discuss the matter.

  • If the matter cannot be resolved satisfactorily then a meeting with the Key Stage Leader and/or the Headteacher may be requested, who will investigate and attempt to resolve the problem as soon as possible, usually no longer than three school days.

  • If the parent is not satisfied a formal complaint may be made.  This must be in writing to the Headteacher and include supporting evidence.  A written reply will acknowledge receipt of the complaint within three working days.  Following a full investigation the Headteacher will inform the parent in writing of the outcome, within two weeks if practicable.

  • The parent may write to the Chair of Governors if dissatisfied with the outcome of the Headteacher’s investigation.  The Chair of Governors will acknowledge and investigate the complaint himself, or delegate a member of the Board to do so on his behalf, following the procedure outlined in 3 above.

  • If the parents wish the matter to be considered further the Chair of Governors will convene, within 20 working days, a panel which will consist of three people – a Governor and a member of the school staff, neither of whom were directly involved in the previous consideration of the complaint, and a third member who is independent of the management and running of the school.  The parent(s) may attend the panel hearing if they wish, and may be accompanied by one other person provided prior notification of two working days is given.

The panel will attempt to resolve the complaint immediately.  Where further investigation is required the panel will arrange to carry it out as soon as possible, and when a decision has been reached will write to the parents, Headteacher, Governors and, where relevant, the person complained of, informing them of the panel’s decision and reasons.   The panel will do its best to complete the process within two weeks from the panel hearing.

A parent who is concerned with an aspect of the School’s policies, procedures, management or administration should discuss this with the Headteacher in the first instance.  If not satisfied with the outcome, the complaints procedure from Point 3 should be followed.
