Welcome and thank you for showing an interest in Park Hill Nursery

The Nursery Staff

We have five members of staff in the nursery – Miss Collinson, Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. Fox, Miss Hosty, and Mrs. Cook. We also work closely with Mrs. Pearson and Mrs. Bleasdale in the Reception Class.

Nursery Learning

The nursery and reception years are collectively known as the Foundation Stage. The curriculum is split into six sections – Creative Development, Physical Development, Mathematical Development, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication, Language and Literacy and Knowledge and Understanding of the World. The children experience a variety of play both indoor and outdoor and practical activities which enable them to achieve their goals within a specific curriculum area.

We also have the “Let’s look at” board which is changed weekly, focusing on different areas of the curriculum, and children are invited to collect items relating to this to bring in and discuss.

Rest Time

Everyday in nursery, we have twenty minutes where the children are asked to lie down and rest whilst listening to lullabies or a story. If your child likes to have a comfort object when resting, please feel free to send it.

Before and After School Club

The before and after school club service is available for the nursery children and is based in the dining room. The club runs from 8.00am to 9.00am, and from 3.30pm to 6.00pm and is supervised by Mrs. Clark, Mrs. Allott and Mrs. Fox.

Dance and P.E

Every Wednesday we have dance and children need to have a pair of shorts in nursery for this. Children also need to have a pair of pumps for Friday’s P.E. lesson.

Clothes for all Weathers

In nursery we aim to allow children to enjoy many outdoor experiences, whatever the weather. We therefore ask parents to provide a pair of wellingtons and a warm, waterproof coat for winter, and suncream and a hat for summer. We also ask that children come in clothing and footwear that is suitable for a variety of nursery activities, including climbing and ‘messy’ play.

Nursery Policies and Procedures

We have a range of policies and procedures in Nursery to help us to run effectively. If you wish to view these, please ask a member of nursery staff and we will be happy to show them to you. This includes our policy on behaviour management.

Initial Visits

Induction sessions are available for children to attend before they start on a regular basis. This enables children to acquaint themselves with staff and children before they start nursery permanently. These sessions are to be arranged with the Head teacher. If parents wish to stay for the induction sessions, or regular sessions until their child settles, they are welcome to do so.
