Welcome and thank you for showing an interest in St Joseph's Park Hill Foundation Stage Unit.
The Staff
We have seven members of staff in the Foundation Unit – Miss Collinson, Mrs. Pearson, Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. Fox, Miss Gina, and Mrs. Spencer.
Learning
The nursery and reception years are collectively known as the Foundation Stage. The curriculum is split into six sections – Creative Development, Physical Development, Mathematical Development, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication, Language and Literacy and Knowledge and Understanding of the World. The children experience a variety of play both indoor and outdoor and practical activities which enable them to achieve their goals within a specific curriculum area.
We also have the “Let’s look at” board which is changed weekly, focusing on different areas of the curriculum, and children are invited to collect items relating to this to bring in and discuss.
Rest Time
Following lunch everyday we have twenty minutes rest where the children listening to music or a story. If your child likes to have a comfort object when resting, please feel free to send it.
Before and After School Club
The before and after school club service is available for the children and is based in the dining room. The club runs from 8.00am to 9.00am, and from 3.30pm to 6.00pm and is supervised by Mrs. Clark, Mrs. Allott and Mrs. Fox.
Dance and P.E
Every Wednesday we have dance and children need to have a pair of shorts in nursery for this. Children also need to have a pair of pumps for Friday’s P.E. lesson.
Clothes for all Weathers
We aim to allow children to enjoy many outdoor experiences, whatever the weather. We therefore ask parents to provide a pair of wellingtons and a warm coat, waterproof suits are provided for wet playtimes. In the summer we ask that you provide suncream and a sun hat. We also ask that children come in footwear that is suitable for a variety of activities, including climbing and ‘messy’ play.
Policies and Procedures
We have a range of policies and procedures to help us to run effectively. If you wish to view these, please ask a member of staff and we will be happy to show them to you. This includes our policy on behaviour management.
Initial Visits
Induction sessions are available for children to attend before they start on a regular basis. This enables children to acquaint themselves with staff and children before they start permanently. These sessions are to be arranged with the Head teacher. If parents wish to stay for the induction sessions, or regular sessions until their child settles, they are welcome to do so.
