On Monday 14th May all the children from Key Stage 1 spent the day at Penwortham Environment Centre. The centre was chosen as part of our Eco-schools initiative ~ educating our children to become more environmentally aware.
In the morning years 1 and 2 took part in a Scavenger Hunt ~ looking for natural materials around the grounds. We were given a map and lots of clues. Reception class went on a mini beast hunt.
The children had been asked to take an : 'Environmentally Friendly' lunch. After recycling, our left-over rubbish was weighed. Reception class had the least amount of rubbish ~ so well done to them! The Centre staff were very impressed with all the children's awareness about recycling and composting and told us that our school had the least amount of rubbish in total, than any other school this year! Well done to children and parents!!
In the afternoon it was Reception Class's turn to go scavenging and Years 1 and 2 got to make plants/insects which showed some way that they had adapted to their environment ~ we had some interesting models ~ and some interesting names for them!
We were very lucky with the weather. The sun shone, we had a lovely day and we learned a lot too!!
