This half term (Summer 2 June-July 2008) your child will be covering the following topics:

English - This half term we will be finishing our non-fiction unit of work on 'Explanation Texts.'   Using the imaginary events of the film 'The Shirt Maker' by Jon Davis, children imagine that they find a ledger belonging to the shirt maker in his shed.  This book contains explanations of his machine and is a treasured possession.  They will write an explanation of how the extraordinary shirt machine works to ensure that generations of his family can continue to make wonderful shirts.

Following this we will be investigating written 'Persuasive Texts' focusing on the common features of this text-type. Children will be asked to plan and write their own persuasive letter to a company about an issue that is causing concern.  Children may also design an advertisement poster to persuade people to buy a new product for market that they considered to be a good idea.

Maths - We will be focusing on areas I feel the children need more work and support.  These areas will be:  Division with Remainders, Decimals and Fractions, Equivalent Fractions, Solving Word Problems, Working with Positive and Negatives Numbers and Time.

Science - This half term our topic will be 'Circuits and Conductors'.  This unit builds on children's previous practical experiences of making circuits and extends their understanding of circuits, conductors and insulators and the need for a complete circuit in order for a devise to work. Children are introduced to ways in which they can vary the current in a circuit.  Work in this unit also offers opportunity for children to relate their knowledge about electricity to everyday contexts and to recognise and take action to avoid hazards and risks to themselves.

R.E. - In RE we will focus on the topic 'Change' linking this to Confession, Forgiveness, Commandments, The Lost Son and Jesus and Zacheaus.  We will then focus on the topic 'Difference' linking this with Confession , Reconciliation and Forgiveness.

History/Geography- This term we will be studying 'Ancient Egypt'.  In this unit children find out about the way of life of people living in ancient Egypt from archaeological discoveries.  Children will develop their understanding of characteristic features of a society; identify the different ways the past is represented; and use sources of information to make simple observations, inferences and deductions.

I

ART/DT - Cont from Sumemr 1 - Our Art theme this half term is 'viewpoints'.  In this unit children explore how to convey the atmosphere and story of a dream using specific visual images.  They will investigate a short film narrative exploring how and why the visual images throughout the film make us feel the way we do focusing on specific still images.  Children will develop a narrative to describe a dream of their own.  They will compare the ideas, methods and approaches used in their own and other artists' and print makers' work. Children will use cameras to take specific still images of their dreams using the school grounds and use other drawing/painting techniques to compliment their still images to produce a piece of artwork illustrating their dream through these specific visual images.

P.E. This half term we will continue to focuse on cricket, rounders and athletics.

ICT - (Modelling Effects On Screen)- Continued from Summer 1.

Children will finish writing their procedures for their individual designs that 'teaches' the computer to produce particular shapes/effects on screen.  We will then start work on Developing images using repeating patterns.  Children learn to use ICT tools appropriately and will select areas of an image to cut, copy and change.  They learn to export their work to other packages and import images from sources such as clip art, scanner or digital camera.  Children will apply what they have learnt in this unit when using ICT to produce pictures, plans and maps in Art, Design and Technology, and Geography.
