In December 2006 St Joseph's achieved the Eco-Schools Bronze Award.  We are extremely pleased to receive this accreditation, which reflects the hard work which was started in our Environmental Themed Week.

To help achieve our Silver Award, staff and pupils have agreed the following targets:

  • To reduce electricity used in school in 2006/2007 (compared with usage in 2005/2006)  To achieve this target, the school council have made signs for every class reminding pupils and staff to ensure lights, computers and other electrical equipment are switch off when leaving rooms.
  • To recycle all waste paper in school.  A recycling bin has now been placed in the car park.  To help achieve this target members of Year 6 collect paper from every class each day and take it to the recycle bin.
  • To compost orange and banana skin from our children's snacks.  To assist with this, members of Year 6 collect the peel and skins from the infants and junior at playtime and lunchtimes.  They take that waste to one of the compost heaps in the school grounds.

Pupils and staff are working hard together to achieve these targets by the Summer Term.  A big thank you to the School Council who are helping St Joseph's to achieve our targets.
