Environment Week  - Eco Schools

All this week we have been learning about how to care for the Environment.

We have been thinking about Recycling, how to save energy, food miles, food packaging and global footprints.

The theme for the week has been the Three Rs : Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

We finished the week with a special Assembly.

Here's a look at some of the things we looked at and did during 'Our Environment' Week.

On Monday we had a visit from the Grow and Saw Company who talked to the children about recycling and composting.

Reception and Nursery looked at recycling.  They made models using junk materials. They put their banana and orange skins on the compost heap.

Year 1 looked at 'Litter'. They went on a Litter Hunt and collected lots of litter. They reused litter from their lunch boxes and made musical instruments.

Year 2 - Wrote recycling poems.   Reused cardboard to made pencil holders and recycled paper to make an environmental promise maker.

Year 3 - Look at saving energy and used the computer to learn more about saving energy around the home.

Year 4 have been thinking about the World's precious resources.  They discussed how Water Aid improved and saved lives in the third world.  They found out about how Fair Trade helps to give a fair price to producers of goods in poor countries.

Year 5 looked at food journeys and recycling.

Year 6 wrote letters to McDonald's asking them why they don't recycle their containers.

At the end of the week all the staff and children made pledges about what they will do to help care for the environment.
